SO.MANY.UPDATES.

Upstairs bathroom. The upstairs bathroom is the main bathroom for the first floor and master bedroom. This room was fairly basic with black formica surfaces, black and white shower tiles and black lino flooring. We loved the porthole, it provides a really lovely morning light, although the glass was shot and leaking so job oneContinue reading “SO.MANY.UPDATES.”

TILES IN PROGRESS.

Finally we are at tiling stage! I have been looking forward to getting started with the tiles as i’m entirely obsessed with ceramic and clay tiles, and started choosing them all the way back when we first bought the cottage. The kitchen has been designed to be quite minimal, lots of monochrome and smooth surfaces.Continue reading “TILES IN PROGRESS.”

Perfect Light.

To me, the most important thing to get right in any space is the lighting. This includes lights and lamps but foremost it means windows. From the moment we set foot in The Hideaway we fell in love with the natural light that streams into the space through the many windows and doors. Sadly mostContinue reading “Perfect Light.”

UPSTAIRS.

So… the first sneak peek at upstairs! This is our master bedroom, we have been having sockets installed as there were none anywhere you would need them, like around the bed! Today the plastering has been finished up here which is exciting. The ceiling had that horror of all horrors ARTEX which we knew hadContinue reading “UPSTAIRS.”

WOODSHOP

For our interior design we are keeping a really neutral, clean colour palette of whites and using as many natural materials as possible to create texture and add much needed warmth and and softness so that the space doesn’t feel clinical. Wood is going to play a big part in the decor of the cottageContinue reading “WOODSHOP”

COSY HOME

As soon as I walked into The Hideaway and laid eyes on the poor, ugly condemned gas fire I knew that I wanted the most beautiful log burner to replace it; in January we found just that and have been patiently waiting for it to arrive from Norway. We love going to stay in remoteContinue reading “COSY HOME”

SANDING, SANDING AND SAND.

It is absolute chaos over here, progress is messy, or so i’m told. This week I have been tackling the interior woodwork while KP has been tackling the front yard. All of the interior doors were once painted in a white gloss which has yellowed so it’s been a painstaking process getting them prepped andContinue reading “SANDING, SANDING AND SAND.”

The Roof, The Roof…

We have spent the last two weeks having everything roof related fixed! The cottage is now watertight (hopefully!). There were so many small jobs to do- tiles that needed replacing and flashing that had worn out as well as a full overhaul of the guttering and ridge tiles. Around the living room glass panelling (aboveContinue reading “The Roof, The Roof…”

The Outside

I slipped on the decking on the way in to the house on the very first visit (good start!). As much as there is to do in the interior, I decided that was the only time I was going to fall on that decking (at least sober) so job one was clearing up the outsideContinue reading “The Outside”

The Hideaway

Welcome to The Hideaway- an old Coachhouse, once a rest spot for coachmen and horses. Some time ago it was renovated into a small cottage but then it was left empty to contend with time, rain and weeds. Despite the weather damage, overgrown yard and leaking everything, we fell in love with this old CoachhouseContinue reading “The Hideaway”
